Nanjing Port is situated in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River which runs straightly into the Huanghai Sea, and is open to navigation for 35000 tons ships all the year. It’s a multifunctional Sea-River and in the Yangtze Delta, river/sea transshipment and water/land transshipment, with an annual cargo throughput of over 70000000 tons. As the largest inland port in china, Nanjing Port is the one of the national pivot port and the first class open port, and member of the International Association of Ports and Harbors.
Nanjing Port has eighteen 10000-dwt wharfs, fifty-two 1000-dwt wharfs and 16 buoy berths; 59338 m2 warehouses, 47787 m2 storage yards, and an 18km port railway; And it owns the largest port areas for petrochemical, container, coal and foreign trade along the Yangtze River; The development stratagem of Nanjing Port is to form one pivot port, two centers and three logistics bases.
As the main item of the development along the Yangtze River of Jiangsu Province and Nanjing City, Nanjing Port is aimed to form a comprehensive and multifunctional regional pivot port, a littoral economic and exported-oriented industrial center of strongest competitive ability relying on the unique priority of transport by rai, air, water, highway and pipe-line in Nanjing city. It will become an assistant hub to the north of Shanghai International Shipping Center with offing container lines and a distribution center for large commodities from the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
It will form a container and logistics base at Longtan area featured in international and inland multi-modal transport of containers in virtue of the construction of Longtan Port Area Project Phase I and Longtan Logistics base for chemical goods adapting to the construction of Nanjing Chemical Industry Zone, a transferring base for foreign trade commodities by the reorganization of the resources of Xinshengwei Port Area in order to suit the five mainstay industries such as electricity, iron and steel industry，
