Zhenjiang Port Cooperation
General Introduction
Zhenjiang Port, which is called ‘Millennium Harbour’, has a long history of about 1800 years, tracing back from the Jianan 13 years, Eastern Han Dynasty, (A.D. 203 years). It is located in the middle part of the Yangtze River delta, and situated at South bank of the Yangtze River, between the two big golden waterways --Yangtze River and Beijing-Hangzhou Great Canal. To the North it reaches the northern Jiangsu plain, Shangdong, Anhui area, and up to the Yangtze River it reaches the six provinces: Anhui,Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan and Chongqing provinces and down to the Yangtze River it reaches the rivers through 279 miles and leads to the international ports. The internal port railroad is connected with the Beijing to Shanghai railroad main line, and the port road links with the Shanghai and Nanjing high speed road, 312 national highways, 218 provincial roads. The Beijing-Hangzhou Great Canal, the Runyang Bridge and the Taizhou-Yangzhou Yangtze River Bridge that is still under construction will link the north and south channels. The superior geographical position and the advantageous condition cause the Zhenjiang port to become an important foreign trade port for the Yangtze valley, Huaihe River, the Beijing-Hangzhou Great canal and a key position of transitions for railways, highways and waterways between southern and northern part of Jiangsu province as well as the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River coast.
The port is one of the 43 main hubs ports nationwide, and up to now, the Zhenjiang port has established the foreign trade transportation service with 71 nations and 288 harbours. It can handle more than 30 goods, including the iron ore, the coal, the phosphorus ore, the sulphur, the sodium sulphate, the cement clinker, the steel and iron and the containers. The port businesses cover along the railroad, coast and river areas.
At the end of the ‘15th period’, the Zhenjiang port will become a great port with hundred million tons. The harbor group company will have the volume of goods 65 million tons, and the container 600,000 signs boxes. At that time, the Zhenjiang port will become the significant hub port along our national coasts.
