The Port of Haikou, situated at the western suburb of Haikou city, Hainan Province, is located in Haikou Bay on the south side of Qiongzhou Strait. The Port of Haikou is a main trading port in Haikou Province and one of the coastal hub ports in China.

There are 11 productive berths among which 2 berths are for vessels of 10,000 dwt. In 1995, the actual throughput was 4.64 million tons.

During the Eighth Five-Year plan period, 2 general cargo berths for vessels of 10,000 dwt in the first-phase project were completed. The newly increased design throughput capacity was 800,000 tons.
