Shanghai Port |
The Port of Shanghai, the largest port
open to international navigation in China, is situated
in the east of China and at the midway of China's coast
line, where east-west water borne transportation
converge. The port has 140 public productive berths, in
which 68 are for vessels of over 10,000 dwt. The
throughput of the Port was 165.67 million tons in 1995,
including containers of 1.52 million TEUs.
During
the Eighth Five-Year Plan period, 4 berths for vessels
of 10,000 dwt in the first-phase of Waigaoqiao (Gaoqiaozui)
port area were completed and 7 berths for vessels of
10,000 dwt were reconstructed in Zhanghuabang,
Jungonglu, Minsheng and Huishan port areas. The main
maritime works in the first-phase of Luojing Coal
Terminal was substantially completed. Since the
construction in the Eighth Five-Year Plan period, the
annual throughput capacity in the port has been
increased by 8.15 million tons.
