The Port of Zhapu is situated on the northern bank of Hangzhau Bay. The port now has two public general cargo berths, one for vessels of 10,000 dwt and another for vessels of 1.000 dwt, in the first-phase of the Port, one coal berth for vessels of 35,000 dwt and one multi-purpose berth for vessels of 30,000 dwt for Jiaxing Power Plant, two crude oil berths for tankers of 25,000 dwt and one berth for vessels of 50,000 dwt at Chenshan. The two public general cargo berths for vessels of 10,000 dwt and 1,000 dwt respectively in the first phase the port were completed and put into operation during the Eighth Five-Year Plan period and the designed annual throughput capacity is 969,000 tons. At the same time, one refined oil berth for vessels of 15,000 dwt and one heavy cargo berth for vessels of 3,000 dwt are still under construction. The port has now an annual throughput capacity of 15 million tons.
