| INTRODUCTION
Aurangabad, 375 Km from Mumbai by
rail and an hour's journey by air, is the most
convenient point for visiting the world-famous caves of
Ajanta and Ellora, 106 Km. and 29 Km. distant
respectively.
Among the ruins of many ancient
buildings, the earliest extant edifies are a group of
Buddhist caves belonging to the 7th century AD about 3
Km. (2 miles) north of the town. Bibi-ka-Maqbara, the
mausoleum of Rabia-ud-Daurani, wife of Aurangzeb, is a
monument of great beauty, resembling the famous Taj
Mahal at Agra.
