| OLD FORT
The ancient
old fort (Purana Quila) is the strong hold which Humayun, the Mughal
Emperor started in the 1530 AD and Sher Shah Suri completed in 1541 AD.
Its relies,
the Sher Shah Mousque a classical example of the artistry of the Hindu
Afghan School and the Sher Mandal, a small two storeyed octagonal
edifice, are good specimens of Hindu - Muslim style of building and
reflect the ancient architectural stringency and masterly art work.
JAMA MASJID
Jama Masjid
is the biggest and most beautiful historical mosque in India. The
foundation stone was laid on 6th Oct. 1650 AD by the Mughal Emperor
Shah Jahan and was completed in 1658 AD.
This
greatest mosque is unique in beauty and stands as a symbol of eloquence
of refinement of characteristic excellent art of Mughal architecture.

LAXMI NARAYAN MANDIR
The laxmi
narayan mandir, commonly known as Birla Mandir is the finest of its
type in India. This temple was built in 1938 AD by Raja Baldev Das
Birla and is an architectural masterpiece of the modern time, giving a
true picture of ancient Hindu culture. Beautiful paintings on the
ceiling, extracts from Hindu mythology are inscribed on the walls and
upper gallery.
QUTAB MINAR
Qutab Minar,
an architectural wonder and the Glory of India, is believed to be the
tallest tower in the world. It is 72.085 meters high with 378 steps. It
stands unique as a feat of engineering amidst the colossal ruins of
Qila Rai Pithora near Mehrauli.
Tradition
says Qutab Minar originally known as Vijay Stamph, was built by the
last Hindu king Prithvi Raj Chauhan and was remodell-ed in 1199 AD by
Qutab-u-din-Aibak. The second and third storeys were added by his
successor Altmash (1210-1236 AD) while the fourth to fifth storeys were
built 1370 AD by Feroz Shah Tughlak. Distance: 144 Kms. (9 miles).
RAJ GHAT
Raj Ghat
amidst beautiful parks, is situated on Ring Road, outside Delhi Gate.
Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation was consigned to celestial
flames here on 31st January, 1948. It has today become National Shrine
and a monument of international fame. Distance: 4 Kms. (2.5 miles).
SHANTI VANA & VIJAY GHAT
There is
still so much left to see most tourists who go first to Raj Ghat and to
nearby Shanti Vana and Vijay Ghat to make their Pilgrimage to the spots
sacred to the memory of Late Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and
Prime Minister Lal Bhadur Shastri.
