HARIDWAR

INTRODUCTION

Haridwar-Hari (God) and Dwar (Door) is a pilgrim town whose antiquity is difficult top establish. It has grown around the spot where the Ganga , emerges from the Shivalik range. Mountains which run paralle to the great Himalaya. Haridwar is rich with temples, most with attracted dharam-shalas or pilgrim spot. Every twelve years Haridwar plays host to the world's largest religious fair the Kumbh Mela.


HAR-KI-PURI

The riverbank temple Har is hallowed by the imprint of god Hari's foot print. The ghat is regarded the most sacred in Haridwar and this is the most auspicious point to bathe in the Ganga during the 12 years Kumbh and the 6 years Ardh Kumbh.


CANAL CENTENARY BRIDGE

Standing on this bridge one gets a good view of the sweeping ghats.


SAPT RISHI ASHRAM & SAPT SAROVAR

According to legend the seven sages - Kashyap, Vashist, Atri, Vishwamitra, Jaindayani, Bhardwaj and Gautam were deep in mediation here. The Ganga, not wanting to disturb them & facilating each her easy approach prefer rather split hereself into seven channels around each Rishi.

MANSA DEVI TEMPLE AND ROPEWAY

The ropeway with its brightly coloured cable cars take devotes to the old hilltop of Mansa Devi. The more devout can also take the winding trail to the summit from where there is an excellent view of Haridwar and its surroundings.


CHANDI DEVI

It is situated at a distance of 6 Kms. on Neel Parvat on the other bank of the Main Ganga river. It is also connected by roap way.
