INTRODUCTION
This beautiful hill station was
established by the British in the early part of the
19th century, in the Nilgris or the Blue Mountains so
called because of the blue haze that envelops them.
Today, an underfinable touch of the Raj still lingers
in its little cottages, colourful gardens, winding
lanes, old churches, its Botanical Gardens and the lake
surrounded by groves of eucalyptus. A fine retreat from
the heat of the plains. Ooty offers scenic beauty and a
relaxed ambiance.
