The
contour depth along the shipping channel is around 10 meters. The
total approach channel is 23 km. The width of the channel varies
between 200 to 1000 meters. The Port is well sheltered from the
South West Monsoon and is therefore navigable in all weather.
Necessary naigational aids are provided to facilitate day and right
navigaton.
Night
navigation restricted to vessels of LOA 189 meters and draft upto
8.23 meters. Tankers for oil jetties handled during daylight hours
only. Ships having speed of less than 9 Knots will not be provided
in & out of port during hours of darkness.
Vessel
can anchor 1 mile South West of the position given under "Pilotage".
Inside the harbour, Port Authorities allot anchorage. Vessels can
however anchor more than 2 miles from Fairway Buoy but must pick up
the Pilot, within 2 miles of Outer Tuna Buoy.
Compulosry,
pilot boards vessel at tuna buoy at the mouth of Kandla creek about
22 km from the signal station at the Kandla Port Tower. Lattitude
22 55'7" North, Longitude 70 07'1" East. Pilot station
lattitude 22 49'5" N, longitude 70 7"E. Loaded vessels
can cross bar only during high water. Vessel to report at Pilot
station 2.5 hrs. before high water. Vessel should contat Kandla
Tower through VHF channel 16.
