Sinhgad is a 'Mountain Fort' near
Pune earlier was fort Kondhana. Raja Shivaji renamed
this fort in the memory of his beloved warrier Tanaji,
who lost his life in a battle to save the fort against
enemy attack. 'Sinh' means Lion in Marathi the local
language and gad the fort. The fort changed hands
several time. The captors were from Mohammed Tughlak in
1340 to the British in 1918. Till recently only those
who could ventured to climb the tedious 'gad'.
Amotorable road created easy now to capture the fort.
Overnight halt is possible in the rented in the
dwellings on Sinhgad.
