The
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) expects to invest
Dh2.61 billion to raise power generation and desalination
capacity. The capital outlay will also cover the upgrade and
development of transmission and distribution networks for
electricity and water, according to General Manager Saeed Al
Tayer.
The
major projects include the ninth desalination unit at G station,
and two desalination units at K station Phase I at Jebel Ali,
the Jebel Ali Power and Desalination Station K Phase II, upgrade
and development of 400kV and 132kV systems for electricity
distribution, and the water transmission and distribution
system.
The
new budget also includes Dh32 million for administration capital
expenditure and Dh1.62 billion for operating expenses.
Peak
loads in 1998 were 1,989mW of electricity and 107 million
Imperial gallons of water daily.
